1.A summary of Barakah’s life
Umm Ayman (RAA) is as a slave. She came from Abyssinia. She was bought by Abdullah the son of Abdul Mutallib when she was ten years old. At the time her name is Barakah. After short time, Abdullah married Aminah. They were so happy. Barakah look after the new bride and bridegroom.
After two weeks, Abdullas’s father came to him and told him to go to with a trading caravan which was leaving for Syria. Abdullah obeyed his father, but he felt sad about leaving his bride after two weeks. Aminah was extremely upset. Barakah conforted her. Two months later, Aminah had a strange dream. She told Barakah about it. “I saw lights shining from my womb and lighting up to the mountains, hills, and valleys around Makkah”. Barakah told Aminah that she was pregnant. She said that Aminah was going to have a special child. Eventually the news came to Aminah that her husband had died.
Aminah give birth her child the name is Muhammad (SAAS), on a night when dark sky was filled with the light of Allah (SWT). Barakah was the first person that holds Muhammad (SAAS), when Muhammad (SAAS) was six years old, Aminah and Barakah took him to the Yathrib to visit the grave of her husband, on the way back of Makkah Aminah died at Al-‘Abwa.
After Aminah died, Barakah took Muhammad (SAAS) to the house of his grandfather Abdul Muthallib. When Abdul Muthallib died two years later, then she took Muhammad (SAAS) to the house of his uncle Abu Thalib, and continued to look after his needed. When Muhammad (SAAS) married Khadijah (RAA), Muhammad (SAAS) found her a husband. He was Ubay bin Zayd from the Khazraj tribe of Yathrib. They have son call Ayman. Unfortunately the marriage did not last for long ago. Her husband died. When Muhammad (SAAS) began to receive the revelation from Allah (SWT) Umm Ayman was among the first people to became muslim. She helped the Prophet (SAAS) asked his companions if one of them would like to marry her. She was about fifty years old. Then, Zyd bin Al-harithah came forward and said that he wanted married her. They married and had a son called Usamah.
When the Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) migrated to Yathrib, he left Umm Ayman behind in Makkah to look after his household. Eventually, she followed him to Yathrib (Madinah) on her own. She walks all the way, through the desert and over the mountains. When she arrived in Madinah, her feet were sore and swollen and her face was covered with sand and dust. The prophet (SAAS) wiped her face and her eyes and said “O my mother, there is indeed a place for you in paradise”. In Madinah, Umm Ayman helped the prophet (SAAS) and all Muslims everywhere at Uhud. She distributed water to the thirsty and nursed the wounded shoulders. She accompanied the Prophet (SAAS) on the expedition to Khaybar and Hunain. Her son Ayman died at Hunain, and her husband Zayd died at the battle of Mu’tah.
When the Prophet (SAAS) died, Umm Ayman (who was then about seventy years old) cried bitterly. “I am crying because the revelation of Allah has come to an end for us”. She died during the time Uthman was caliph. She was unique. She was the only one who was so close to the Prophet (SAAS) thought his life from birth to the death.
